QUEEN CARNIVAL
TOWNSPEOPLE'S CO'MMITTEB (MEETENG. 'Mr R. Laurie presided on Tuesday evening' o’vjdr tli|e\ final meeting of the Townspeople’s 'Committee in connection with the- recent Queen Carnival. The chairman presfen(t|sid the balance sheet which showed receipts £172 12s lid and expenditure £4 8s 7d, leaving a balance handed to the Carnival execultivlsl steicretary of £l6B 4s 4d. It was proposed by Mrs Wood and r _ seconded by Mrs- K. Rickti.t that the balance sheet as read bia accepted.— This was carried unanimously, members of the committee rtimarking that the expenditure, namely £4 8s; 7d, in an effort which' realised' £l6B 4s 4d profit, was very creditable' and showed the gphietosi|ty of the Townspeople s supporters ail'd the careful working oE the committee; The names of the (winners of the competitions were then' handed to the secretary for publication along with the other committees’ winners. Mr Laurie on behalf of the secretary and himself, thanked the (ladies for the veiry fine effort they had put forward anil congratulated them oil/ their success. Mr Laurie spoke of the ' friendly feeling that had existed at all 'meetings and expressed pleasure at having been associated with the committee. The chairman then asked the secretary to accept 'from the committee, for - his daughter, a very large, “Baby Dolil dressed in the committee’s colours” as a mark of appreciation for the way in which he had carried out his duties, and mentioned that M.r Tailby’s knowledge! of the ins and outs of carnivals and his quickness to note any move during the campaign had undoubtedly been a. great help towards bringing the committee’s effort to such a satisfactory, conclusion^ In thank the committee tor the' present Mr Tailby stated that the success of the carnival was no doubt due to the efforts put forward by the 'ladies on.whom most of the work had fallen, and he greatly appreciated the form of the* present. A hearty, vote of. thanks whs then accorded the chairman (Mr Laurie) for his guidance , and assistance throughout the carnival—Carrie)! by acclamation. The secretary was instructed to record the motion in the minutes.
The meeting then cldsed with a vote of thanks to the Waipa Post for the use of its rooms for meetings.
