BROADCASTED MESSAGES
NEW YORK TO DOMINION.
HEARD EN TE AWAMUTU.
A ! Press Association message to hand yesterday from Palmerston North states that broadcasting from Schenectady, New York, last night was picked up locally but reception was interfered with by howling valves. ' Speeches and orchestral items were, heard, but with difficulty, and the volume was stated to be no better than with the usual Sunday aftertransmissions. The special programme was sent out on a wave length of 32.7 metres.. Mr Nelson Winch (Z.l A.P.) of Te Awamutu, reports that reception here was very good, though , conditions were not very favourable. Quick fading at the. rate of about two per second' was noticed, also a swinging (is always common on low wave-lengths. The musical portion of the programjme came through clearly, an!.l was comfortably readable on the telephone, using a twovalveJ low loss* receiver. Mr Winch adds that ' W.G.Y. (Schenectady) is often picked up at about 3 -to 4.30 p.m. on Sundays, on 32.7 metres.
