Possibly, of all the promises made during and since the election, none has commanded more attention than the undertaking to introduce legislation for the purpose of assisting the married worker with a family. This should be the most important piece of social legislation placed before Parliament for some years. The Cabinet has had the varied experience of other countries to guide it in deciding upon its policy, and it will be interesting to see what course Mr Coates and his colleagues will adopt. Any attempt to shelve the matter would place the Government in a most unfavourable light, for Mr Coates has stated definitely that "this part of our policy and 'legislation will be brought down this, year," and the Prime Minister ad' J .ed: "We have decided to do something. We were elected to do it, I take it."—"Lyttelton Times."
