iMr R. G. V. Garrett, who had to go to hospital for an operation for appendicitis, was reported last week to have come through the ordeal most satisfactorily, and that it was expected he would, be able to return home last Saturday. (However, he contracted influenza, and ha\s not yet been allowed, to leave the hospital. His condition is not at all satisfactory-. The Tui ladies’ hockey team has yet to go to Te Awamutu to play its last game in the Finch rose howl competition. The club is to be congratulated on the fact of having won the .rose bowl, they having so far won three games, two against Pater«ggi and one gaanist Te Awamutu. They hope to add) another game to their record when they meet Te Awamu[tu. At a large and representative meeting of Kio Kio milk suppliers held yesterday a resolution was . unanimously passed in consonance with those in other districts protesting against ithe proposed absolute control of dairy produce by the Dairy Produce Export Control Board.

McKenzie, of Honikiwi versus the 'Otorohanga County Council, for the value of sheep which i? is alleged were killed owing to their eating tutu which had been left lying on the road by the county roadman is set down for hearing at the Magistrate’s Court next Wednesday. It will be remembered that at its last meeting the Council repudiated all liability in connection with the matter.

Messrs Morton and Connolly, Wellknown contractors, having completed all their jobs in this district, have had their tender accepted for a £2OOO- contract under the Public Works Department at Rotorua. The contract is for the formation and metalling of a portion of the main highway, andi means the handling of some 10,000 yards of material. The district health inspector is making one of his periodical visits to Otorohanga, and it is expected that as a result some glaring instances of unisanitary conditions will he rectified. In some., castes it is impossible to improve things, seeing there is no drainage sy-stem here. T.he Town Board i s considering a sewage scheme that it is to be hoped will be an accomplished fact at a reasonably near future date. The approaches to the newly-erected bridge over the Mangaorongo river are nearly completed, and the structure will shortly he opened) for traffic. This bridge will he of great utility to -the ■whole of the Mangaorongo and Maihiihi district, as the access to the main highway will he shortened by several miles, the side road .through Ngahape coming out on to the main road close to the casein factory at Te Kawa. The main road between Otorohanga and Hangatiki has been greatly improved, the County Council having widened it at sectoral of the most dangerous tends. It is work such as this which must lessen the probability of motor accidents such as have occurred in the past. The Otorohanga .County Council has ■been successful in raising the £4OO .necessary for the Moakurua bridge at Honikiwi. The bridge will he built by the 'Public Works Department, which provides a subsidy of £2 for £1 towards the .total cost. The ratepayers of 'this district are to be congratulated on the prospect of an early building of the bridge. 7 The prevalence of dry weather hasbeen very favourable in regard to road contracts, and the contractor for ithe (Barber’s road work (has been able to continue, and hopes to have the metalling completed without hindrance. It is very uffujsual to have favourable weather conditions prevailing at this time of the year for the carrying out of road metalling. It is a pleasure to report the convalescence of all who have inferred to as having been dangerously ill from the effects of influenza. Mrs 'Peterson, of Mangaorongo, is well on ithe road to recovery, and! Messrs W. ©lack and C. H. Corbett are about again.
