THE HALF HOLIDAY

SYSTEM OF ELECTION. (By Telegraph. Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Wednesday. There is to be no alteration of the present system of selecting the statutory half holiday as far as the Government is concerned, according to a statement made in the House yesterday by the Minister of Labour (the ■Hon. G. J. Anderson), in .reply to an inquiry by Mr W. S. Glenn (Rangitikei). Mr Glenn said that .statements w«rs current that the Government intended to take up a stand in regard to the half holiday all over New Zealand. Official information was wanted on the subject, as small shopkeepers were expressing anxiety over the matter. “ There is no intention of altering the present system of deciding'the half holiday,” replied the Minister. “ There will be an amendment of the Shops and, offices Act this year (hear, hear)— and the hon. member will ‘then be able to see the proposals. There is no desire or intention, however, to alter the present system of selecting the half holiday.”
