KIHIKIHI ROAD.

Sir,—l notice that the Borough Council at its last meeting virtually condemned the action of the Engineer for adopting a method to protect the inner edge of curves on the recently surfaced portion of the Kihikihi road from disintegration by speeding motorists taking the corners too sharp. This surface cost a considerable sum of money to lay down and is- now one of the Council's main assets.' Surely some mean's- in the ratepayers’ interests should .be taken to see that it is not wilfully destroyed. The curves are quite uniform and there should be difficulty at ordinary speeds to keep generally to the centre line tif formation. IThe method adopted is cheap a.nd provides an effective baulk to road hogs.. It appears as though some members of the Council, to air their knowledge, make a point of differing from the Engineer on every occasion that lends itself to gallery play. This swelling pf the chest no--doubt makes an impression on the small toy in the gallery but does not cut much ice with the ratepayer alongside him.— I am, etc., RATEPAYER.
