PATERANGI v. OTOROHANGA,

(Otorohanga Correspondent). The ladies’ hockey team representing Paterangi visited Otorohanga on Saturday where they were defeated by the local team by 2 goals to nil. From the opening of the game play favoured O'torohanga, but little timelapsed before 'Paterangi set up an attack. 'Scooping the ball down field, into the visitors 25, Otorohanga was: penalised for offside play. A spirited rush bv the Otorohanga forwards from, a. shot by P. Harris tested the visitors, backs who egective-ly repulsed any attempt at goal. At this stage the home team were awarded a free- hit for sticks but nothing resulted therefrom. Field play ensued and from a penalty hit by Macky the ball was secured by -N. Mc-Crea-dy, passing to Hyde- and Vincent, and across to L. Leathum who scored a good goal—Otorohanga 1. Paterangi 0. Upon resumption both sides were.noted for their attacking, but- sadly lacking in combination, and frequentlymissing in passing rushes. The visitors forced the local team into their 25, but any chance of scoring was saved by I. Martin, who sent the ball' into mid field. After further uninteresting play the ball went behind thevisitors goal and the whistle sounded half-time.i

The visitors immediately took up the offensive and a good rush by their forwards gave- G. Finch a chance on the wing, but was prevented from any chance of goal by the greater speed of A. McCready. who, intercepting sent the'ball out. On the throw in A. McCready secured the ball and passing across to Waterton and Tomlin, gaveN. McCready the advantage, and their was no mistake about scoring. Otorohanga 2. Paterangi 0. Further attempts at goal >ty either side werefruitless. The, game, judging on last week’s display was decidedly disap- R pointing in which Otorohanga were R frequently penalised for offside play, and obstruction. Field honours of the day favoured Paterangi, the score being no indication of the victors superiority over the defeated team, Prior to the commencement cf the game, the -j teams observed two minutes s.ildnce i; as a mark of respect to the late Mr A. Briggs. Mr C. J. Spiers of Paterangi" proved a popular referee.
