The increased interest in hockey
that has been shown in Te Awamutu since the visit of the Indian Army hockey team was shown on Wednesday afternoon when a much larger at-
tendance than usual was rewarded by witnessing three real good games. The Te Awamutu girls, capably led by Mrs White, who is a player of exceptional ability, turned the tables on the Paterangi girls, thus making the three teams —Otorohanga, Paterangi and Te Awamutu—level again with one win and one loss each. This is in the competition for the Rose Bowl presented by Mr C. A. Finch. The Paterangi inside forwards used some of the lessons learned from the
Indians and well earned their three goals. Ronnie Spiers' effort was a beautiful shot. George Finch's were also good efforts. Len Spiers stood out amongst the backs. White has not yet recovered last year's form. Karl hits too recklessly, and does not see who he is hitting to. For Waratah. McDonald did well at
full back, his saving being very good, but he must watch his stick a little more. St'icks are far too much in evidence all round. The Waratah forwards only want to develop a little more combination and not hit so hard to make them hard to stop. . The other match was not up to the same standard. K. Perrin was very safe but even he 'requires a few more games to come to his best. The United forwards are shaping well, and if they keep their positions better, will go far. Their present weakness is in the circle.
For Ramblers, 0. Finch did a great amount of work and kept his position much better than usual. White will find him a serious contender for the centre position. J. Lenihan is not yet up to form, but made many good saves.
Amongst the colts, Roy Hinton was very safe and will do well. Macklow is much improved, while B. Gibson and Ivan Baxter both shaped very well for 'their size. If they only stick to the game and practice, it would not be very long ere they are amongst the contenders for representative honours.
The selectors have not so easy a task this year, so many of the younger players showing such greatly improved form.
