PAKURA AREA

THE WORK OF SEWERING. The engineer reported as follows to •the Borough 'Council meeting last Monday evening: “ Levels have been taken for all the sewers in the Pakurfa area that are to be built for the present in PateTangi Road, Raeburn Street, Pakura Street, and Pirongia Road, and plans and sections have been made for each sewer; specifications have been prepared for all the necessary excavation, and a contract let to Mr D. Bradley. The work has been commenced, and will be pushed on as fast as possible to get through so that we may concentrate on the bitumen construction during the summer weather. Mr 'Bradley offers to submit a price for the laying of the pipes and filling in, leaving the .work complete. It is proposed, however, to follow him as he excavates and lay the pipes with a gang of our own men on wages. The sewer in Wallace Road will be ready for duty as far as the maternity hospital this week. The rest of the sewer, extending some nine chains beyond the hospital, will be finished while the gang is on the ground, unless instructions to the contrary are received in the meantime.”
