SCHOOL DANCE

SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION AT POKUBU.

(Own Correspondent.)

Last iFriday evening the children of our school were entertained to a fancy dress dance under the direction of our school committee, assisted by a band of willing helpers. The night was ideal for such an occasion, and consequently the number present exceeded the expectations of all, the school being crowded. The inside of the building had been tastefully decorated with ferns and other greenery, which made a fitting setting for the many and varied costumes worn by the children. The early part of the evening was devoted to the children. Dancing and games, interspersed with recitations, were indulged in, which the little ones greatly enjoyed. At 10 p.m. a bounteous supper was served, to the delight of all, especially the children. As there were eighty children present in fancy costume the judges , Mesdames Leitch, Thomas, and C. F. Battson, associated with Mr YoUng, had a most difficult task in arriving at finality. However, the awards met with the approval of the large assemblage. Dancing was then indulged in by the older folk, and kept up till the early hours of the morning. The evening was voted a most successful and enjoyable one, and the school committee and their assistants are to be congratulated on holding such a successful function, as the school fund for the annual picnic will receive a great augmentation from the evening's entertainment.
