ALLEGED HORSE STEALING

YOUNG MAORI CHARGED,

Some time in October, 1924, a valuable horse was reported to have been stolen from Cambridge, and the matter was placed in the hands of the police, but no trace of the animal (which belonged to one Oliver) was found -until about a fortnight or so ago Castable Doyle,- of Te Awamutu, saw a norse answering the description of the missing animal, in the possession of a young native named Charles Tuhi. Mr Oliver was sent for and he identified the animal as his missing property. Tuhi, when questioned by the police, asserted that he purchased the horse from a district settler. The latter, however, denied that Tulii’s statement was correct. Constable Doyle then arrested Tuhi, and he was brought before Messrs Savill and McGechie, J.’sP., at the local Court yesterday morning, charged with horse stealing. On the application of the police the accused was remanded until Wednesday, May 30th.
