“ WORKING BEE ” TO-ERECT FENCES. “**•■
The committee of the Waipa Racing Club met in the 'club’s office last , evening, when there -were-.present: Messrs' H: Weal, A. -H. Storey, B. A.' u Empson, A. Bond, E. B; Walker, WAlexander, T. G. O’Sullivan, fu Mr Weal was'voted to the Chair. , - ' •' The chief business was to further v perfect arrangements in connectifiißf with the forthcoming race meeting, ft Approval was received from trict Committee of the programme for the meeting on Wednesday, 27th May next. . , The secretary reported that the Dis-' trict Committee had allocated Saturday, 12th December,’ as the’ date for next season’s race meeting. The sub-committee set up to report on the laying out of a steeplechase course presented its report, detailing where each jump should be located. There would be six obstacles. All would be outside the course proper except the final jump, which would te in the straight where the hurdle ds when hurdle races are in -progress. The class of obstacle was discussed, and it was decided that five of tes obstacles be brushed, with solid bar showing in front; the other will be the one in the straight. It was decided to urge all supporters to assemble at the course next Tuesday to erect the jumps. If'an early start is made and the attendance is up to expectations a thorough • job can be done in a few hours. It was proposed to ask t'he caretaker to indicate on a blackboard each morning which of the five tracks are available for exercise; if weather conditions alter during the morning the caretaker to use his own judgmen - After discussion, however, it was decided to defer decision until a later meeting of the committee. It was decided to accept the tender of Mr J. Mol'loy to conduct a publican’s booth, and the secretary was authorised to arrange for the refreshment catering. It was decided to obtain locks for some of the lockers in the jockeys room. „ Messrs F. Quin and J. T» Young were appointed number board stewards for the forthcoming meeting. The problem of securing an accommodation steward was discussed, and it was decided to ask Mr J. O Sullivan to undertake the duties. - It was decided to engage the Awamutu Municipal Band for the occasion. , - . .. The secretary reported that the
railway authorities' were arranging. . for a suitable train service. One new member was elected.
