TAUMARUNUI RACES. After a good deal of correspondence between the. Taumarunui Racing Club, the District Committee, and the New Zealand Racing Conference the Taumarunui Racing Club has been allotted Saturday, 23rd May, for the holding of a race meeting under a special totalisator permit loaned to the club. The meeting is (says the Press) a little late in the year for Taumarunui, but an attractive programme has been arranged, and £BOO will be distributed in stakes. Owing to the season of the year the card liras also been reduced to seven races, of which the President’s Handicap, of 200 sovereigns, one and a quarter miles, will be the big race. Sprinters are well catered for in the Rangaroa Flying Handicap, of 100 sovereigns, and, beside a Hurdle Race and a Trial Plate, there are three races for hacks. Altogether the programme should prove a most enjoyable and successful one, and all that is required is a fine day. The club has not experienced a fine day for years, but surely Fate will not defy the law of averages any longer, and a few years’ racing in fine weather should be experienced by the Taumarunui Racing Club.

The Taumarunui meeting takes place four days before the Waipa Racing Club’s meeting (to be held on Wednesday, 27th May).
