LAND DRAINAGE.

UPPER MANGAPIKO BOARD MEETS.

A meeting of the Upper Mangapiko Drainage Board was held at Cambridge on Monday, when there were present: Messrs J. W. Peake (chairman), A. R. Cox, V. H. Nolan, C. Parker, T. Moisley, and H. R. Cowen. Leave of absence was granted to Mr W. Murdoch on account of illness.

During the interim from the last meeting, and in order that the newlyappointed members would become conversant with the Board’s district, an inspection of all drains and the Mangapiko Stream had been made. s It was unanimously agreed that the key to the situation in the matter of efficient drainage was the clearing of tlhe stream.

It was resolved, in the matter of expenditure in the current year, so far as finances will permit to concentrate on the work of clearing the creek. Mr W. Crook will be put in charge, and the chairman will attend to supervising and reporting upon its progress. Several of the ratepayers had been met during the inspection, and they had expressed entire willingness, provided that a thorough job was done in the creek, to attend to keeping clear the parts of the drains in their lands leading to the creek. As provided by the Act, ratepayers will require to clear blackberry where it impedes the free flow of water in the various drains on the banks of the stream

It was reported that the waste from the dairy factory at Roto-o-Rangi was creating a nuisance by lodging in the Board’s drain, and the company will be notified to take action to remedy the matter .
