TE AWAMUTU STOCK SALE. At Te Awamutu on Saturday the N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency Company had a fairly heavy yarding of cattle, including a good entry of heifers in calf. A strong demand existed for fat and store cattle, and all this class was disposed of, but only moderate business resulted in the dairy section. Fat steers made £6 10s to £7, unfinished steers £4 17s to £5 15s, rough fat cows £2 12s 6d to £3 15s, cows in fresh condition £1 16s to £2 4s. store cows £1 2s 6d to £1 9s. 4-year forward bullocks £4 4s to £4 12s. 3|year store steers £3 Gs to £3 12s. 20month steers £2 lis to £3 Is, 20-montlh emptv Shorthorn heifers £2 10s to £3, yearling Shorthorn heifers £1 2s 6d to £1 7s Gd. yearling steers £1 Is to £1 7s 6d, 2-year Jersey-cross heifers in calf £6 (is to £B. WAIKATO MARKET REPORT. The Fanners' Co-operative Auctioneering Co. Ltd.. report as under: Beef: There has been a slight improvement in beef values, due principally to fresh demands for export. Plaiii quality lias been omsily affected, but withdrawals of any class for export purposes must ultimately have a. beneficial effect on the market generally. Mutton. The market for mutton is strong and steady, and everywhere good competition prevails. The national exhortation to "eat more beef" does not seem likely to reduce the value of mutton (luring the winter season at all events—as supplies seem anything but plentiful. Store eattle: In general the demand for store cuttle has slightly improved and competition up to a point is seldom lacking. Bullocks are drawing enquiry once more, whilst younger steers are lirnn'ug perceptibly. Empty heifers, however, do not seem to have shared in the advance, and in-calf heifers are lower than was anticipated for i hi.-- period of Ihe year. Store sheep: The enquiry for store sheep is strong with supply short. Lines of ewes in lamb are now being quoted and enquiries lor this class will be able to satisfy requirements. Quotations in comparison with the value of dry ewes in the February fairs are not so high as might have been expected. Lambs are still in strong demand with not many offering. Pigs have ilnetnated somewhat since our last report, but it may be stated with certainty that the general tendency is slightly backwards. The yardings have been very good although unfinished bus are always well in evidence. Morses: Good draughts and farm horses continue to draw good competition where offered.
