AN UNIQUE RECORD.
SET UP BY OLD THAMES BOY. Mr Harry Taylor, an old Thames boy, now a linotype operator 'in the composing room of the Sydney Daily Telegraph, has been presented by the company with a framed photograph of himself and his machine. Mr Taylor holds the world’s record, for length of service on one linotype. This particular machine was installed in 1894, and was the first linotype erected in Australasia. Mr Taylor was the first operator on that machine, and has worked it continuously from that date —2B years ago—until now, when it has been displaced by a modern linotype. Mr Taylor started at the case as a young man with the Thatnes Advertiser. Another old Thames boy on the linotype at the Telegraph, Sydney, is Mr W. Koefoed, who started as a boy in the office of the Thames Star. Both have “ made good ” on the linotype.
