A BRIGHT, CLEAN SHOW.

; LAURIE’S MUSICAL COMEDY CO. Those people who went to the Town Hall last evening to witness the performance of Alfred Laurie’s Musical Comedy Co. without expecting talent of the Mdlle. Pavlova, Harry Lauder, or Enrico Caruso standard must have been pleasantly surprised at the versatility of the artists, gratified at the absence of any word or action that could offend the susceptibilities of the most captious critic, and regretful that, the hall was not packed to the doors. Everything from curtain rise to the National Anthem went as merrily as a marriage bell, and there was a complete absence of those irritating delays between items in some touring companies. The star performer was probably Miss Muriel Brown, whose contributions of a sailor’s hornpipe and a toe dance. “ Humoresque,” were delightful. The Buster Ballet was in evidence frequently, wearing an almost bewildering variety of costumes—

neat, artistic, and bright coloured. The young ladies stepped their measures in sprightly fashion. Billy Evans was the chief contributor to the comedy section, his dame and parson impersonations being very well received. His description of happenings at the vicar’s fancy dress ball caused roars of laughter. Tom Lincoln was another expert, mirth-maker, and his best pair of items was probably “ N’Everything ” and “Mr Rubenstein.” while be was a veritable Mr Buttinski in I the sketch, “ Two Fools,’ wherein ; Billy Evans was giving an excerpt from j melodrama. Les Faulkner sang in 1 pleasing style “Take a Pair of Spark-'| ling Eyes,” and as an encore “ The Dreams that Have Been,” winning , plaudits on each occasion. A full pro- ; gramme was concluded with a clever , medley of first. lines from well-known 1 songs, the whole company taking part and presenting a very effective number. i;
