A PROFITABLE COW.
A REMARKABLE RECORD. The secretary of the N.Z. Milking Shorthorn Society, Mr W. Hunter, of Palmerston North, has' received from England the particulars of the wonderful record put up by an 8 year old non-pedigree Shorthorn cow, the property of Mr Ernest B. Debenham, of Bladen Dairy Farms, Dorset. The cow, Cowslip by name, calved on the 21st April, 1921, the heifer calf being weaned on the 25th, and testing was commenced on that day. Her total yield of milk for the 365 days ending on April 25th, 1922, was 26,1451 lbs. Her weight and measurements indicate that she would be a very profitable proposition as a beef beast and she should go far to justify her claim to being a dual purpose cow. At the end of the lactation period her weight was 15cwt lqr. 211bs. Her measurements from centre of the eyes to tip of tail were Bft 3ins, and her girth 7ft 2Sin.
