In the latest report upon Sam-; t , the revenue and expenditure for 1921-22 are given as follow: Revenue, including subsidy. £IHS.569 6s lOd. Ordinary expendit!' e (showing an excess of ordinary expenditure over revenue of £1,611 lis lid) £137,180 18s 9d; extraordi-n.ry expenditure, £49,229 Is 2d. Total expenditure £186,409 19s lid. '"The Customs and Marine revenue" states the report, "totalled only £84,400. as against £107,751 for ti.-e preceding year. The main item, Customs imports. £56.824 (previous year £79,567), is due largely to, the over-Im-portation of 1920, and consequent abnormal stocks in 1921, and to a marked extent to the falling --a-iies being reflected by an ad valorem tariff. The last quarter of the preceding year showed the beginning oi the movement."
