A first offender, charged with being drunk and disorderly at the railway station, was fined £2 at the court yesterday morning by Mr L. G. Armstrong, J.P. Two sharks were caught at the wharf at Mapu, Nelson, last week. One on being opened wasi found to contain a bottle that had been thrown overboard in Cook Strait from the steamer N.'kau about a month previously.

A recently gazetted regulation, with the object of preventing the advent of foot and mouth disease, prohibits the importation of cattle, swine, sheep or fodder for live stock from the United Kingdom. The town clerk stated that the amount was 10s. 'lt was decided to forward the money to the proper quarter. A councillor remarked, " I suppose it cost £2 to collect this 10s."

A farmer in the Palmeisiton North district told a Manawatu Times representative that the Railway Department charged him £1 15s 6d to convey a purebred pig from Wellington to Feilding. He states that he was charged rate and a-half for the crate, because it contained a purebred animal, and he wants to know why this should be so. A meeting of the Rovers Football Club was held on Saturday evening, when Mr W. Potter presided over an attendance which augured well for the interest to be taken in the game this season. Mr L. Laver was appointed secretary ,and the meeting was adjourned until Saturday evening. Two shining cuckoos were seen in Mr W. Kirkham's garden on the Puniu Road this morning.

There was a large and reverent congregation at the Kihikihi Anglican Church on Sunday evening, the occasion being the harvest festival, when special hymns were sung. The church was artistically decorated, sheaves of corn and maize and vegetables being effectively used in the decoration. The preacher was the vicar, the Rev. A. M. Niblock, who delivered an impressive sermon on work and the need for the exercise of forethought in all life s deliberations and for the striving toward a high ideal to lit one for the attainment of a better 'life. The sermon was attentively listened to.
