HAMILTON, Wednesday,

There are thousands of pounds worth of hay and oats rotting in paddocks of South Auckland due to the continued heavy rains. The proportion of farmers who have succeeded in getting their hay and crops in in good condition is said to be very small; indeed, during the past seven days 4.18 inches of rain fell in Hamilton, where streams are swollen, and floods may be expected shortly if the rain continues.

The recent storm caused an extensive landslip on the Waihi Company’s line about midway between Waihi and Waikino. Something like 1000 tons of earth came away, completely blocking the line.
