A HAWERA MOVEMENT

HAWERA, Wednesday.
It is understood that a movement is afoot in South Taranaki to form a dairy produce pool, on the same lines as the meat pool. A meeting of leaders of the industry will be held ‘shortly to discuss the proposal.

The Farmers’ Union was not then in a strong position, and for months he could not get a meeting sufficiently large to represent the wishes of the farmers, so nothing was done. The farmers had not been slighted in the smallest way. The amendment was lost, and the motion (for Saturday) carried on the voices.
Mr Boyce thanked the Council on behalf of the Wednesdayites for the full opportunity given for all sides of the matter to be discussed, and Mr West also thanked the Council for the earnest consideration it had given the matter.
The Mayor said the type of meddlers in Te Awamutu were (found everywhere, but in Te Awamutu they were detrimentally active. It was refreshing to councillors to hear from ratepayers an appreciation of the efforts which those men he referred to had decried.
Cr Spinley said there was a type of man whose aim in life seemed to be to find fault. They never did anything progressive, nor took any lead in anything helpful. Now that Saturday had been decided on and misunderstandings explained he thought that perhaps the Saturday question might be re-opened. The meeting then closed.
