THE DISTRICT HOSPITAL.

ORGANISM AN APPEAL.

ADMINISTRATION OF FUND

The appeal which." is to be launched for funds for the establishment of a maternity hospital at Te Awamutu was further considered at a meeting

of the executive on Thursday. The chairman, Mr C. G. Downes, presided and there were also present / Dr. G. J. Hall, and .Messrs. A. G. Warburton and J. G, Wynyard (secretary). Following the allocation which was made by the~district representatives on Saturday it was decided to communicate with gentlemen in each locality asking that district meetings be held to promote any scheme of money raising that will best atain the desired object in the particular district. Each district will have its own committee and secretary, the object being the subscription of the amount allocated. In order that preliminary organisation could be completed and committees set up, it was decided that tha appeal opm on July Ist.. A public meeting at Te Awamutu

is to be held next Thursday to adojt a system of money raising in the Borough for the subscription of the allocation of £llsO.

Some discussion took place 1 regard-- , ing the control of the funds, ladt - Saturday's meeting of delegates having, decided that the . control and administration" of the funds would be , in the hands of a committee to be comprised of' the representatives from each contributing district it was felt that the present committee had no further function than to organise the appeal and hold the funds in trust for the more representative body of control. It was not regarded possible, I until it is known districts actually do contribute,, to set up the larger committee. It was therefore . <■ decided to proceed no further with the plans of the maternity ward or i the selection of site as no capital ex- \ penditure could be incurred by the present committee. It was decided to appoint Messrs. L. G. Armstrong, and J. iT. Johnson trustees of the fund to hold the moneys in trust for the commitcee, when appointed. The subscriptions as received will be deposited' in the Post Office Savings Bank. Mr J. G. Wynyard was appointed treasurer. The districts are to be asked to hold their meetings and notify 1 tha names of. their committees and secre- / taries before June 20th so that full information regarding the organisa-

tion in the various localities can be published before the appeal opens in July Ist. Reports so far indicated that the movement will receive ready support and that in some localities organisation has been already begun in readiness..
