RABBIT EXTERMNATION.

MEETING AT TE KAWA. VOLUNTARY COMMITTEE FORMED FARMERS. A meeting of Te Kawa and Te Mawhai settlers to consider the best means to deal with, the rabbit nuisance in the Te Kawa district was held at Te Kawa on Tuesday afternoon. There was a representative attendance of settlers, over which Mr S. G. Broadbent presided. The chairman reported that the matter had been discussed when the boundaries of a proposed district had been outlined and the meeting was called to agree to the boundaries so that some advance could be made with the proposal. Mr L. G. AsMon, chairman of the To Kawa West Rabbit Board, was in attendance and, at the request of the meeting, reviewed the circumstances which led to the action taken'by the .settlers in that district. He stated thai the area comprised in the board's district was "from the drain to the railway." A petition had been prepared and signatures obtained asking for a board to be formed and this was about to be forwarded to headquarters so that operations could soon "Commence. He attended that day to explain what had been done, and if Y necessary the boundaries 'set out in the petition mentioned could be deleted.

At the request of the meeting Inspector G. B. Melrose explained the methods to be adopted to form a rabhit board which was more satisfactory than'a voluntary association. The board had legal and as an instance of effective work the inspector cited the success which had attended the operations of the Hairinl Rabbit Board. He pointed out that whatever was clone the settlers must understand that definite action should he taken to destroy the rabbits. He was personally in favour of a board to be formed, but it was for the meeting to decide. After an informal discussion, the •chairman proposed that an association be formed and this was seconded by Mr 'Henderson, and on being put to the meeting was carried unanimously. At the suggestion of Mr J. Teasdale Jnr., it was decided to call a meeting in three months time and form a board if the association was not a 1 success.

The boundaries of the association's district were then agreed upon and the following were appointed a committee, namely, Messrs. Broadbent, Oates, Perrin, McLean Wylie, J. Teasdale Jnr., Inspector G. B. Melrose, •with Mr P. H. Smith as secretary.
