VALEDICTORY.

MRS W. F. STEWART FAREWELLED.

, Appreciation of Mrs W. F. Stewart previous to her departure next Week for Auckland with her family was expressed manifestly yesterday afternoon by the ladies of ,Te Awamutu, when a garden party was held at Mrs J. K. Martin’s residence, College St., in order to suitably bid her farewell. Mrs Stewart, who has been for many years in Te Awamutu, has taken a great interest in the town, and her efforts have always been found ready when anything was required. She has a very wide circle of friends indeed in this district, and this v/as fully and indubitably proved at yesterday’s function. There were over eighty ladies present, and also Rev. N. Wright, Dr A. Henderson, and Mr J. K. Martin.

During the afternoon tea was served and a general conversazione took place. On behalf of the ladies of Te Awamutu, Mrs A. S. Wallace presented Mrs Stewart with a gold wristlet watch, suitably engraved, a. very dainty and smart piece of jewellery. In making the presentation Mrs Wallace emphasised the well - known popularity of Mrs Stewart and her sterling worth. Her friends here had determined that she should not be allowed to leave a town and district where she had spent so many happy years without some tangible and lasting expression of the affection and friendship of those she knew. Mrs Stewart would always be remembered in Te Awamutu as a lady whose friendship it was an honour to hold. In response, Mrs Stewart thanked the ladies deeply for their generous gift. She would always treasure the little watch as a token of friendship from those who were her real friends —friends that it was not easy to meet every day. She would miss Te Awamutu, she said, for many a happy year had been spent there, and it would not be easy to forget the old friends. She valued the tribute very highly indeed. Musical items were given by Mesdames Wright, Thomas, Hawkins, and Dawson, Misses Blundell and Finlayson and Rev. N. Wright.
