“ That a vote of thanks he passed to the anonymous donor of a cheque for £IOO to the Wellington Hospital,” was the text of a resolution passed by the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board recently. It was mentioned that a similar donation had been made for some years past.
A Sydney paper says: “A small cy- j clone hit the city on Boxing Day. In passing one grabbed a handkerchief from one of the Chinamen, who politely requested the return of his property. A sneering jesr was the reply. Then the fun began. The second Chinaman, a thickset young fellow, lined up alongside his pal,, and quick as a flash, unslung his right, and before the spectators had fairly got over their amazement at the first onslaught, four men were lying on their backs on the pavement and street, showing no inclination to rise at once and “ have a go.” It was no laughing matter for the discomfited rowdies. They had had their lesson. “Who are they?” was asked. “ Tago Young and Rud Kee, the boxing professionals,” was the reply. And then the rowdies knew !
