BABY FOUND DEAD
INQUEST AT DUNEDIN.
The inquest opened to-day on the body of the newly born infant found in a sack on St Clair beach, Dunedin, on Tuesday, with a piece of line tied tightly round its neck. Doctor Evans said the body was fully developed and well nourished. There was a circular pressure -mark on the neck, and he was of opinion that the child had lived, and that the cause of death was asphyxia. There was no water in the lungs, showing it had not been drowned. There must have been some interference with the air supply. The constable said the body apparently had been in the sea, but could not have been there long, as it was found at the high water mark. The inquest was adjourned sine die.
