MEETING OF THE WHAREPAPA BOARD.

CASEIN FACTORY NUISANCE. REPORT BY THE ENGINEER. The Wliarepapa Road Board met on Saturday morning, the chairman (Mr G. Kay) presiding. There were also present: Messrs H. C. Speedy, J. B. Hutchinson, E. R. Gould (engineer), and Mr S. J. Fortescue (clerk). The Department of Public Health notified that action had been taken in the matter of the nuisance caused by factory waste at the casein factory at Te Kawa. It was stated that the liquid had been sprayed by a steam ejector, and that future provision would be made by putting in a 600foot line of earthenware pipes to carry the liquid to a far-off gully. Mr A. P. Bennett, the inspector, said that he had visited the factory, personally. Members of the Board said that the nuisance was still a very present one, and that more drastic steps should be taken.

Mr King wrote, stating that the road at Matapara had been blocked for two weeks.

On .the motion of the chairman, seconded by Mr Speedy, the following resolution was passed: “That, the action of the committee of the Electric Power Board, in including in the petition to be presented to. the Gov-ernor-General for the constitution of the Te Awamutu electric power district all that area which has been decided upon by the committee in the Wharepapa road district, be confirmed.”

Mr A. R. Willis presented a petition to the Board asking that a road be made through Mr Barton’s property, being part of the Rangitoto A No. 1 Block, about a chain in width. The petitioners stated their consent to the ereation of a special rating area comprising all the land affected and deriving benefit from the proposed road, and also that a special rate should be .made for metalling, etc.—The matter was-jilaced in the hands of the Board’s /solicitor. The petition will be forwarded to the Waitomo. County Council.

ENGINEER’S REPORT. Mr Gould reported that, in company with Mr Pratt, he had travelled the main road to Ngaroma, and along the Aotearoa Road. “ I noticed that beyond Whareptihanga the roads were almost impassable,” said Mr Gould. “ They vequire immediate attention, and in this connection I propose making use of the grader, and getting the roads passable for summer traffic as fast as possible.” In reference to the proposed accommodation paddock at Wharepu-

hanga, Mr Gould said he had seen Mr Goddard, and he had suggested that section 7 should be taken, as it was the most suitable, being, four acres in area. Application would shortly be made to the Commissioner of Crown Lands.

li In regard to the district engineer’s letter of 11th September asking if the Board is in ,a position to submit proposals for expending certain balances available,” said “ I have conferred with the Waitomo County Council regarding the Kawa Road metalling, and a contract for the work, amounting to £BSO, has been let. Proposals in the ordinary way have been prepared, and will be submitted shortly, so that the grant of £224 for the work may be made avail-, able immediately.” Mr Gould also reported on several other items.
