ELECTRIC POWER BOARD

WAIKATO NEEDS EMPHASISED. CONFERENCE AT HAMILTON. A conference was held in Hamilton last night for the purpose of considering electric development in Waikato. Mr F. F. Hockly represented the Te Awamutu Electric Power Board District as is proposed for constitution >under the Electric Power Boards Act, and the Waitomo and Walpa Counties were also represented. The proposal of one large Board in Waikato, with its headquarters at Hamilton was not favoured, it being agreed that the interests could be better served by a series of operative Power Districts. A suggestion that a central committee be set up to conclude negotiations with the Department, and carry all communications from the various local districts to the Minister was also rejected after which the meeting was devoted to the consideration of boundaries and the best means of securing agreement on the dividing lines between the respective Power Board areas. Mr Hockly intimated that so far as Te Awamutu is concerned •agreement has been reached which enables the district already defined to be made operative under the provisions of the Act. The conference was unanimous in the desire for electrical development and tints indicated the claims of Waikato.
