WOIHEN'S LEAGUE MEETING.

ACTIVITIES CONTINUED

A special meeting of the committee of the Te Awamutu branch of the Auckland Women's Patriotic League was held recently, the Mayoress (Mrs A. S, Wallace) presiding. There were also present: Mesdames W. Taylor, A. H. Storey, F. Bowden. H. Hutt, S. H. Dunkley, A. Henderson, and C. F. Battson.

The provincial secretary intimated that it is essential that branches continue their activities, and not on any account to prematurely disband. Nor should they transfer their efforts to any other aspect of patriotic work, as this organisation is approved by the Government for definite work which must be adhered to. In reference to funds in hand, it is emphasised that moneys must not be allotted to any other purpose pending definite advice from the Department of Internal Affairs. As to the Dominion gift scheme arrangement is now being sought with the authorities as to whether parcels should continue to go forward. Further contributions are not needed for the Hussif Fund, and moneys in hand may be diverted to the general fund. Enquiries are in progress as to how the League ean supplement the comforts for the anen on the returning transports, and a definite scheme is to be outlined. A ministering committee is in office to do everything possible for the sick and : wounded soldiers and to make their 'homecoming as cheery as can be. In Red Cross work, activities will be continued for some time yet to discharge the obligations to the sick and wounded at home and abroad.

It was decided by the meeting to continue the effort so long as help is needed, and activities will be resumed on the day appointed by the head office on March Ist.

The secretary reported an inquiry from the men's provincial committee as to the position of the funds of this branch.—lt was agreed to thank the committee for its inquiry and offer of help,, and to reply that sufficient moneys are in hand to meet present requirements.

The secretary reported that the Red Cross Tea Rooms are closed. The meeting made very appreciative reference to the consistent and valuable work done by Miss Collins and those associated with her in the conduct of these rooms, Which had proved such a great success. In all £2OO 9/ had accrued from this source to the funds of the branch. It was unanimously decided that a letter conveying the League's best thanks be forwarded to Miss Collins, and, through her, to those who had assisted in this splendid effort. A vote of sympathy was passed to those who had suffered bereavement during the recent epidemic. It was decided to intimate literature is required for the N.Z. military hospitals and transports, and gifts of this description may ho deposited in the hook bin or loft at Mr Mairs' shop.
