FIREMEN AT PRACTICE.
On Wednesday afternoon the Te Awamutu Volunteer Fire Brigade assembled at the practice paddock, and for the first time the members were instructed in the actual working of the firefighting apparatus. For about two hours the brigadesmen were kept on duty, carrying out in detail the various duties at their respective posts. The practice was witnessed by a fair number of townsmen, and the value and need of training in the handling of the various appliances was very apparent. The work of the brigade was very creditable although, as could only be expected from a band of practically all recruits, there was a certain ” amateurishness” in their actions. They showed a willingness to learn, and a readiness to listen to their instructors, which must soon make for the training of a creditable and efficient body of brigadesmen. By volunteering their services to carry out duties which entail much personal discomfort the men are offering a good service to the town, and we hope the town will show a ready appreciation. The opportunity, in. the appeal for funds for the erection of the reel house is now offering.
