STIFLING.
There is a proprietor of a shop who is for ever scolding his employees for their indifference in the matter of possible sales. One day, hearing an assistant say to a customer, “No; wc have not had any for a long time,” the proprietor, unable to countenance such an admission, began to work himself inte. the usual rage. Fixing a glassy eye on the assistant, he said to the customer : “We have plenty in reserve, ma’amplenty do wnstai is!” Whereupon the customer looked dazed, and, then io the amazement of the proprietor, burst into hysterica laughter and quitted the shop. “What did she say to y nf" mended the proprietor of the “Wo haven’t had any r ■' '
