FIRE BRIGADE MATTERS

HOME GUARD AND THE E.P.S. The monthly meeting of the Waipawa Volunteer Fire Brigade was held last night, there being a full attendance of members. Also present were the Mayor (Mr F. Eagle) and Crs. G. Harvey and G. Knobloeh, representing the Fire Brigade Committee of the Borough Council. Various matters in brigade work were dealt with. Correspondence from the United Fire Brigades’ Association re the Home Guard and the Emergency Precautions Organisation were discussed, during which the Mayor gave some interesting information as to the functioning of these bodies, and it was decided that the brigade as a body link up with the E.P.S. Owing to several members having enlisted for active service the superintendent was instructed to interview ex-members with a view to joining up for the duration of the war, thereby keeping the brigade up to its usual strength.
