OFFICERS’ MONTHLY REPORTS.

At last night’s meeting of the Borough Council reports as under were received from the overseer and gasworks manager:—, OVERSEER. General. —Water-tables in Great North road and water-tables and footpath in Ruataniwha street have been cleaned. Fifty tons of coal carted to the gasworks. Thirty-six hours were worked on Jull Park. Asphalt was used patching Great North road, eight yards of pit metal carted to Ruataniwha road and chips carted to Brewery mad. The usual grading and rubbish carting was done. Waterworks. —Water pipes have been repaired in Ruataniwha road, Griffin road and Windsor Hill, and water meter installed at the Empire Hotel. Both pumping plants are in good order. Highway.—Forty-eight hours were worked on Ruataniwha road grading, metalling and shifting slip. GASWORKS. Gas made.—November: 1938, 353,000 cubic feet; 1939, 306,300 cubic feet; increase, 13,300 cubic feet. December: 1938. 378,800 cubic lee:; 103<k 385,200 cubic feet; increase, (>4OO cubic feet. Coal carbonised, 27 tons 0 cwt,; average make, 14,200 cubic feet per ton. During December seven new g et cookers and one second-hand cooker were installed. Three services we e renewed and four meters changed. Gas sales.—November, 1938: Gross, £143 15s 9d; discount, £22 13s 8,1; nett, £llß 19s 4<l. November, 1939: Gross, £157 0s (Id; discount, £24 Is 2d; nett, £l2O 14s Od. Appliances installed since 1/4/30. — 14 cookers, 10 fires, three rings, two water heaters, two coppers.
