A serious accident occurred at Bay View just before mid-day yesterday, when a light truck' ran into a telegraph pole and was badly wrecked. The driver, Mr R. E. Haines, aged 31 years, a bushman of Putorino, received severe head injuries, and was admitted to the Napier Public Hospital.

Cigarettes which sell in New Zealand for 7s 6d a hundred (including duty) are supplied to the troops overseas at £1 5s for 850, including packing and postage. Tobaccos are quoted at 8s to 10s a lb. in 21b. lots. “Once a Digger” asks if any similar arrangement has or will be made to permit duty-free cigarettes and tobacco to be sent to New Zealand troops when they are overseas.
