THE PIHA CASE PRELIMINARY HEARING. AUCKLAND, April 18. The Lower Court hearing in the Piba fire case opened in the Magistrate’s Court before Mr C. R. OrrWalker, S.M., to-day. The two accused, Gordon Robert McKay, alias Tom Bowlands, wool and skin dealer, aged 43, and James Arthur Talbot, laborer, aged 38, were jointly charged with improperly interfering with a dead human body, that of Patrick Henry Shine, at Auckland on February 10th, and with wilfully setting fire to the dwelling house of Frank Carew Thomas, thereby committing arson, at Piha on February 12th. The arson charge was amended, making Florence Jessie Thomas the owner of the bach. The accused were represented by Mr R. J. C. Sanderson for McKay and Mr J. Terry for Talbot. Detective - Sergeant Nalder prosecuted, assisted by Detective Sergeants J. Trteheway and Aplin, who arrested Talbot on March 10th and McKay
