GOLF.

WAIPAWA CLUB. A large number of players took the field on Wednesday afternoon for the opening medal round of the season, and some exceptionally good cards wei’e returned. The fairways were in splendid condition, and will be the means of pleasurable golf for the official opening next Sunday. The greens are rapidly improving, and will be receiving further attention by the greenkeeper before opening day. Many visitors from clubs between Napier and Takapau have signified their intention of being present for the opening, and shopld the good weather hold, a most succesful day is assured. A mixed Canadian foursome will be played, players to arrange own partners, who should be ready to take the tee at 1 p.m. sharp. Monday, 6th June, being a holiday, a tournament has been arranged for the men’s section. Morning stroke round, and afternoon a mixed foursome. Trophies will be awarded for each event, and all members are requested to keep the day clear for this event. The season’s programme has now been arranged, and is posted on the pavilion notice board. Several interclub matches have still to be arranged. Owing to the official opening of the Patangata Club taking place tomorrow, to which a cordial invitation has been extended to this club, no draw has been made for play on the local links. LADIES’ CLUB. Until the L.G.U. has fixed the scratch score practice rounds will be played. Ladies’ tees have now been fixed and will be marked by red boxes. To-morrow partners will be drawn at the club-house at 1 p.m. On the opening day all lady members are asked.to bring something towards afternoon tea.
