IN CENTRAL h.g. AREA REDUCTION IN BULK SUPPLY CHARGE TO BE SOUGHT. “That the Central Hawke’s Bay Electric Power Board tyrjte to the Hnn. Minister of Public Works pointing out that no reduction has ever been made for energy sold to rural boards and that if such reduction be made, this Board will be greatly enabled to assist in the reticulation of the backblock areas.” The above resolution was carried at yesterday’s meeting of the Central H.B. Power Board, after considerable discussion on the question of charges generally. The resolution originally moved by the chairman, Mr A. C. Russell, was as follows: “That the Central Hawke’s Bay Electric Power Board write to the Hon. Minister of Public Works pointing out that no reduction has ever been made by the Department for energy sold to rural boards, and that the Hon. Minister be that if such reduction fie made, this. Board will devote 50 per cent, to the reticulation ‘of backfilock areas,” It was not possible, he said, to do the back country retfculatiqn work from thp BflwijJ’s profits, and while it CQfild he done by raising loans there was a limit to this method. A reduction in the cost of power would be of great assistance. Mr A. W. S. Longley raised the objection that the request, if agreed to, would affect urban and rural residents equally, whereas the latter, who were without power supply, needed assistance mbch more urgently, He understood that the Minister
