CENTRAL H.B. SUB-UNION LEADERS OF SENIOR COMPETITION BEATEN. EASY WINS FOR TE AUTE, j TAKAPAU, AND OTANE. 3 A further round of the Central H.B. Sub-union’s competitions was played . on Saturday under the best of wea- , ther conditions. Old Boys and Wai- , pukurau had a sterling contest, (the , former defeating the leaders of the competition by the narrow margin of 3 three points, a penalty goal. Taka- , pau had an easy win over Waipawa, . Te Aute were much too good for Rangers, and Otane, who are improving with every 'match, had a meritorious win over Porangahau. Omakere had the bye. The Waipawa juniors continued their winning' way, defeating Otane by 10 to nine. SENIORS. TAKAPAU REGISTER A GOOD WIN. Waipawa seniors travelled to Takapau and suffered defeat by 25 ppints to three. The home team played their best game of the season,, and the combination of the back division was too sound for the Waipawa boys. The teams were as follow: Takapau.—Mulinder, L. Thompson, Maaka, Marshall, Bell, C. Thomsen, Saul, R. Reid, D. Heperi, Halliday, R. Thompson, Craig', Greerson, Pointon, Mouat. Waipawa*—Bond, Green, Hart, Walter, Lovatt, Bond, Stephenson, Davy, Hopkins, Fleming', Carne, French, Eru, Tui, Orr. Tries for Takapau were scored by Craig (2), Heperi, Maaka, Reid, Greerson, and Bell, Halliday converting two. For Waipawa Came placed a goal from a penalty kick. Mr Jeffery had charge of the whistle. WAIPUKURAU DEFEATED. AFTER HARD GAME WITH OLD BOYS. 1 AVaipukurau sustained their first 1 defeat, going down to Old Boys by s six points to three. It was a hard tussle from start to finish, and there ‘ was little to choose between the I teams. Rae scored a try for Old Boys t in the early part- of the game, and towards the end of the first spell Benson evened up the score by registering a try for Waipukurau. Neither was converted. The second half was a ding-dong go, and both sides were within an ace of scoring on several occasions. Nearing the end Jamieson, for Old Boys, landed a penalty goal. Waipukurau struggled valiantly to even up, but were unable to penetrate the defence. Mr Woodward refereed.

ANOTHER WIN TO OTANE. AN ELEVEN POINT MARGIN. Otane defeated Porangahau by 25 points to 14 in the second game at Waipukurau. For Otane Burgess and Smart scored two tries each, while Greene had three penalty kicks and two conversions to his credit. On the Porangahau side, R. Ross, Coulton, H. Kuru and Pahi were responsible for a try each, and Pahi one conversion. The referee was Mr Voyce.. EASY WIN FOR TE AUTE. ALL BLACK STEPS OUT FOR RANGERS. Playing at Tikokino Te Aute defeated Rangers by 28 points to three. The home team held their doughty opponents well in the first half, but combination and training told their tale in the second spell. Kaanga and Nathan scored tries for the College in the first spell, and W. Collins, a former All Black, who stepped out to fill a gap in the Rangers’ team, kicked a penalty goal for the homesters. In the second half tries for Te Aute were scored by Haimona, Kaanga, Murray, Northeroft, and Tou. Haimona and Tou each converted a try and Haimona kicked a penalty goal. Tou’s try was the coping stone to a very fine piece of work by Smith, who ran nearly the length of the field through the opposition and handed the leather to Tou to score. Kaimona played an excellent game at fullback. Mr T. B. Jackson refereed. JUNIORS. ANOTHER WIN FOR WAIPAWA. The Otane juniors were defeated by Waipawa at Otane by 10 points to nine. The game was very closely contested and was full of interest right to the finish. Mr W. Spaygo was an efficient referee. Takapau beat Rangers at Takapau by 17 points to nil. Rangers played a man short. Old Boys, at Waipukurau, beat Waipukurau by eight to nil. At Waipukurau Te Aute beat Porangahau by 35 to nil. NAPIER-HASTINGS v. CENTRAL HAWKE’S BAY. AT AYAIPUKURAU ON AVEDNESDAY.
