BROADCASTING STATION

CONTRACT LET TO BE COMPLETED BY END OF AUGUST. The contract for the erection of (he new radio broadcasting station at Opapa has been signed by the successful tenderer, the Johnson Building Co., of Napier. The Contract price i‘(l: the station is £6262. The same firm has nearly completed the residence for the station manager at a cost of approximately £2OOO. The station will be a ferro-enn-erete building of modern design with a plaster finish on the outside. The central portion of the building will he occupied by the transmitter room. 50ft. by 31ft., and in front of that will lie a studio measuring 22ft. by 12ft., and offices. An engine room, 30ft. by 24ft., will be at the rear of the transmitter room. At the back of and close to the building a reservoir with a capacity of 25,000 gallons of water is to he built and also a high tank stand. The building will be completed about the end of August. The transmitting tower, whiek will he 0001't. high, is not included in this contract. The residence is a modern bungalow. The site of the station is on the main south road about half a mile south of the Opapa railway station. Apart from the fact that the new broadcasting station will serve the whole of Hawke's Bay more efficiently than the present service, it will confer a decided benefit on the settlers in (he district, as it will he the means of bringing the “juice” to their doors. This applies particularly to the Te Aute Hotel, which was wired for electricity when it was re*l milt several years ago but up to the present has not been able to get the current.
