PALLID TOMATOES.
LACK OF POTASH
Lack of potash is the cause of tomato fruits, instead of coloring evenly, developing patches of pale yellow, which no amount of sun will finish properly. The pallid patches are so shiny that they give you the impression of wax. It is caused solely by the lack of potash. Perhaps in your feeding schemes you have been using potash faithfully and this is the reason. If you feed tomatoes, or anything else for that matter, intensively, and give no lime to keep the soil sweet, the fertiliser will remain insoluble or wash out without assisting the plants. So that if you have been feeding with potash, give your treatment a chance to do its work by sprinkling on the border freshly'slaked white lime at the rate of ioz. per square foot. i\ ith a hand fork stir the lime in and water well. Repeat this treatment every three weeks to the end of the season. Potash is so necessary to tomato perfection that if you have not been using it you should start at once. Every week- until the end of the season water the crop with a solution made by dissolving loz. of sulphate of potash in a gallon of water. Adopt the lime treatment too.
