LADIES’ GOLF CLUB.

ANNUAL MEETING. There was a fairly large attendance of members at the annual general meeting of the Waipawa Ladies’ Golf Club held last night in the Borough meeting room. The report and balance-sheet were read and adopted. The election of officers resulted as follows:—Patroness, Mrs L. H. McHardy; president, Mrs J. Clark; vice-presidents, Mesdames H. M. Rathbone, N. J. McKay; captain, Miss A. Britten; vice-captain, Mrs Edwards; secretary, Miss d’Emden; committee, Mesdames Angus, Woods, Bishop, Strang, H. S. Rathbone, Misses Beck, Witherow, and J. Rathbone. Miss Witherow was accorded a hearty vote of thanks, carried by acclamation, for her services as captain. It was decided that the club provide tea, sugar, milk, and biscuits for afternoon tea, and Mrs Edwards to be in charge, each member to pay 3d.

It was also resolved that men’s matches be catered for by the ladies as usual.

Miss d’Emden proposed that to save the collection of tile L.G.U. levy it be added to the ladles’ subscriptions, making the total fl 12s, Mr Edwards to be asked to cooperate. A discussion then took place on the question of ladies’ match day, but on the voice of the meeting it was left as previously arranged, to Saturday. At the close of the meeting Mrs Edwards asked Miss d’Emden to accept an honorarium of £2 2s from the men’s committee, in recognition of her services as ladies’ secretary. Miss d’Emden suitably replied. ANNUAL REPORT. The secretary, on behalf of the committee, presented the following report: — During the 1936 season our membership was nearly doubled, and even with a reduced par many handicaps were gained or reduced. The championship was won by Mrs Woods, the silver medal by Mrs Strang, and the bronze medal by Mrs Roy Britten. We otter congratulations to these ladies. Trophies to be played for during Ihe season were presented by Mesdames Clark, McKay, H. M. Rathbone, Woods, Strang, Bishop, Armstrong, Mr Shackelford, and Misses Rathbone, Witherow, Beck, and d’Em■ien. Thanks are due to those kind donors. Matches were played against several of the local clubs, some separate and some in conjunction with the men’s matches, and all were very enjoyable. An open tournament was held on Saturday, 20th September, some 53 ladies taking part. Mrs Miffin', of Hastings, won the Hunter rose bowl, Mrs Strang and Mrs Ridge tied for ihe Otanc vase, Mrs Strang winning on the count back. There were several of these ties in (his tourney and prizes for runners-up would meet these eases in a future tournament. We have heartily to thank the Press for publication of results, Mr Strang for the use of his office, and committee lacfiea in whose homes meetings have been held. We also have to thank Mrs Strang and Mr Watts, who were of great assistance in measuring the course and helping in the alteration of our par.
