As Mr W. M. Fraser’s time is now' fully occupied with his duties as returning officer for the general election, Mr W. O. Hawke, of the Wairoa Court, is acting as Clerk of the Court for Waipawa and Waipukurau, Bishop Cherrington intends to sail by the lonic on February Cth for England to raise funds for the extinction of the debts of several parishes in the Waikato diocese. He will be away for the greater part of the year. There being no further nominations, Mr J. D. O'Sullivan was, at noon on Satuiday, declared duly elected to the seat on the Borough Council rendered vacant by the resignation of Mr D. A. Preston. He will be swoin in at the monthly meeting on Thursday evening.

At the fortnightly meeting of Loyal Abbotsford Lodge of Oddfellows on Friday evening advantage was taken of the opportunity to make a presentation to two members who will shortly enter the bonds of wedlock — Bro. j. Cable and Sister K. Dailey. The presentation of a handsome bronze fire-screen w’as made by P.G. Bro. W. .J. Harris, who conveyed the best wishes of the lodge. Suitable acknowledgment was made by Bro. Cable and lodge honors were accorded with enthusiasm.
