MONTHLY MEETING. Present—Mr L. Glenny (chairman), and Crs. N. M. Paulsen, C. Bainbridge, J. Butler, C. Thomsen and B. Gray. CORRESPONDENCE. From Patangata County Council, re drain on Homewood road.—The letter stated that the work done had been promised before the Waipawa County took control. From Post and Telegraph Department, advising that loose wire had been cleared from Blackburn road.— Received. From M. Barr, complaining that access had been cut off from river al Kopua.—The engineer said he had interviewed Mr Barr and explained the position to him. From J. D. Stenberg, asking for repairs to road. —To be attended to. From N.Z. Counties’ Association, in reference to danger signals for graders.—Cr. Thomsen said it would mean much more expense for benzine if grading plants had to go ahead and place the signals before operating on the wrong side of the road.—Cr. Paulsen said it would be more costly if an accident occurred. He believed in playing safe.—lt was decided to supply each driver of the grader plant with a pair of signals. From N.Z. Counties’ Association, re 121 per cent, rebate. —The letter stated that owing to £500,000 of the Highways Fund having been diverted to the Consolidated Fund no money would be available this year for relief of rural rates.-—Received.

From S. M. Hewald, asking for transfer of Takapau billiards room ieense.—Approved.

From E. T. R. Carlyon, confirming the handing over of the bridge known as Rumbal’s bridge to the Council. — To be legalised. From Limbriek Bros., submitting figures showing that Voeo petrol gives a greater mileage than any other second grade petrol on the market.—Engineer to conduct a test with the lorries during the month. ENGINEER’S REPORT. The Council’s engineer (Mr R. W. Bond) submitted the following report for the period ended August 31st, 1932:

Waipawa Riding.—Two hundred yards of metal has been put on Kereru road. Draining and removing spoil from soft places and refilling with limestone rock is being carried

out on Te Ante road. Planting oi willows has been done near Waipawa river bridge on the Onga-Tikokino road for further protection. The roads in this riding are in good order. Onga Riding.—Planting of willows

and willow protection is well in hand I at Fletcher’s Crossing. There are | two places which require small re- I pairs at this point. Metalling- on the I Wakarara road is completed. This I road is now being trimmed up witli I the horse grading plant. Most of the I roads in this riding have been I graded and are in fair order. Clinton Riding.—Surface work and I general maintenance have been car- I lied out. Blackberry, briar, broome.l and gorse, etc., are being grubbed on I various roads with unemployed labor. I Two stock paddocks have been con-1 structed at Maugatewai bridge, and I some shelter trees planted round I same. On inspection of culvert on I road leading to Mr Severinsen’s. I senr., I find it will require a new 2ft. I 6in. concrete pipe culvert, the old I wooden one having completely col-1 lapsed. The estimated cost is £34. I Takapau Riding.—Surface work I and general maintenance have been I carried out during the month. Two I stock paddocks have been constructed I near the concrete bridge over the I Manawatu river at Kopua. W ater I continues to back up on the lower end of the Asheott road, the channel not yet being cleaned. General.—Since notifying settlers re overhanging trees along various roads a good number have made a start in removing the obstructions, making a decided improvement. Others) have done nothing. • Onga Riding: Willow planting at Fletcher’s Crossing authorised. Clinton Riding: Cr. Thomsen congratulated the engineer on the job done at the droving paddocks by unemployed labor. Engineer to inspect bridge on Rosenbach’s road. Cr. Thomsen to interview Mr Severinsen re culvert.

Takapau Riding.—Prices to he oh I tained for fencing off a section in the I township as a holding paddock for I stock at the sales. Culvert to he pul I in between Donald’s and Edgar’s. I OTHER REPORTS. The telephone linesman reported I having overhauled the South Maka-1 retu line, and telephones in other | parts of the County had been attend-1 ed to. He suggested the purchase of I 25 24ft, poles—Purchase authorised. I The traffic inspector reported sev-l eral breaches of the Motor Regula-1 tions. I The temporary ranger reported having removed 92 head of straying I stock from the County roads—Attention of ranger to be drawn to scale of driving fees, complaint being made that he had overcharged in one ease. Matter of outstanding driving fees left to ranger. GENERAL. Prices to be obtained for repairs to the telephone linesman's car. The boundaries of the district over which the Takapau poundkeeper has jurisdiction were extended to cover both stock roads. v. Patterson’s appointment as temporary ranger extended to December 31st. Two metal pits in the Argyll district to he fenced.
