Mr A. E. Juil returned home on Saturday from his visit to Welling, ton on business of the Main Highways Board.

Dr. T. H. A. Valintine, Director. General of Health, has intimated that as he has reached the retire, ment age he will vacate his positing at the end of August. No ai muncernent is yet available regard ng Dr. Valintine’s successor.

An old and well-known resident of Central Hawke’s Bay, in the person of Mr Henry James Limpus, passed away early yesterday morning a- the result of a seizure. The deceased, although he had not enjoyed the lie«t of health for some time, had apparently quite recovered, and wa» up and about oil Saturday. During the night, however, he had a severe heart attack from which he failed to rally, He leave a widow, who will have the sincere sympathy of the community in her sad loss. The funeral is to take place at Hadley cemetery to-morrow afternoon, leaving the deceased late residence, Waipawa road, Lindsay, at 2.30 p.m. The deceased was 1 prominent member of the lxiy:, Abbotsford Ixidge of Oddfellows, and members are requested to assemble to pay a last tribute to his memory.

It is with sincere regret that we have to record the passing ol 1 a very old and highly respected resident of Waipawa in the person of Mr John Harper Dunn, at the advanced age of 00 years. The end enme very peacefully, while silting in his chair at home. Although lie had not been vigorously active for some considerable time he enjoyed reasonably good health to the last. Bom in Liverpool, he earne to New Zealand when only four years of age, and after living in the Wellington district for some years came to Waipawa, where he had lived for half a century, bringing up a family of five suns and one daughter—Messrs John (Hastings), James (Taknpaul, Harr* (Takapan), Ernest (Christchurch), Tom (Waipawa) and Mrs W. Harris (Waipawa). The sympathy of the community will go out to the bereaved widow and family. The funeral is to take place on Wedensday afternoon at 2.30. and members of the Abbotsford Lodge, of which the deceased was an old and valued member, are requested to assemble to pay tribute to his memory.
