CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.

PREPARATIONS FOR FESTIVE SEASON. The monthly meeting of the Chamber of Commerce was held on Monday, Mr C. G. Marker presiding. There was a larger attendance of members than usual. Routine correspondence was received. The chairman moved a motion of condolence with Mrs L. Pratlcy and the relatives of the late Mr Leonard Prat ley, a valued member of the Chamber who bad passed away since the November meeting. He paid r tiilmte to the enthusiasm of the late member in all matters affecting the good of the town. The formation of the Chamber of Commerce, an organisation to foster the inter ts of Waipawa, was the outcome of the late member’s wish to see a widening of the activities of the Progressive Association. The motion was carried in the customary manner. The meeting discussed the matter of street lighting decorations at Christmas and New Year time, and also the presence of the usual hand whose playing is always so acceptable •it Christmas and New Year time. It wH* decided to order the lighting streamers from the Power Board, and to ask tin* Borough Council to go into the mailer of providing the town with a hand at Christmas. It was mentioned that the late Progressive Association had annually donated a miniature eup for the best ••ill athlete of the secondary depart•lcnt of the Waipawa High School. The Piogres*ivc Association having become merged in the Chamber o l ' Commerce it was resolved to continue *he donation. The very important matter of land for clo.-er settlement being acquired l.y the Government was discussed. Tt was decided to appoint a sub-commit tee consisting of Messrs C. G. Tlarker, S. Dailey and F. Smith to watch the matter and he prepared to take action. The matter of the drift of business ♦‘nan Waipawa to Napier and TTast’ligs was discussed. It was decided to nvit( the Waipawa Retailers’ Association to discuss the matter with the Chamber. Tt was felt that it was vital to tin* town and called for seriou consideration.
