The Waipawa Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club will open the present season with an evening meeting on Coronation Park on Thursday next. The programme will include 100, 220, and 880 yards running events, mile and half-mile cycle, ladies’ 75 yards, hoys' evele, and basketball relay championship. Entries close with the secretary, Mr E. Kingston, to-morrow evening. The County Council to-day decided to impose a speed limit of 20 miles an hour on vehicles when passing through townships in tire County. Some members thought it a little too low, but as was pointed out if it were made 25 the rule would be interpreted as 30. The police are also to he asked to see that the motor regulation in regard to parking is observed. It was suggested that this was not necessary in small townships, but Cr. Paulsen pointed out that the law had to be observed in larger centres, anil motorists could get good training in the country.

The “shop” run on Saturday in the Commercial Hotel buildings in aid of the Dental Clinic Fund proved most successful, in spite of the adverse weather conditions. A great amount of produce, etc., was turned over, and a couple of competitions assisted materially to swell the receipts.
