LADIES’ ROSE BOWL.

On Saturday morning the lady members of the Waipawa Golf Club played a match for the club’s rose bowl, a handicap match being run in connection therewith. Mrs Woods proved to be the winner of the principal trophy with the excellent score of 101, with Miss Z. Witherow runnerup at 116. Excluding these two players Mrs Pickett and Mrs McLeod tied for the handicap prize with a net score of 80. The trophies were donated by Messrs Lockhart and Strang. At the conclusion of plav Mr .1. A. Lockhart, captain of the club, presented the prizes, mentioning in the course of congratulations to Mrs Woods that it was the first time the rose bowl had been won by a member of the Waipawa Club, and it furnished a fitting feature of the closing play on the Abbotsford links. The scores were as under : Gross. Net Miss Z. Witherow 11l 75 Mrs Woods 104 80 Mrs McLeod 116 80 Mrs Pickett 116 80 Miss V. In the afternoon a match was to have been played between the Takapau and Waipawa clubs. Unfortunately, just as play was about to commence rain set in and continued till well on in the afternoon, with the result that a number of the pairs did not complete the course. It was the more unfortunate in that this was the second occasion on which the Takapau players have visited the local links this season, and both times rain spoilt the matches. The depressing conditions did not, however, prevent the players from enjoying the dainty tea provided by the ladies. OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP. WON BY S. MORPETH, AUCKLAND.
