Tile filial games in this season’s scries of billiards matches between the Waipawa and the Waipukurau Clubs for the possession of the shield were played at Waipawa last evening, when the home team, by winning seven of the ten games, retained the trophy, which they have held since the competition was inaugurated. Results and order of play were as under, Waipawa players being named first:— Mackay heat Mackie, McLeod beat Gardiner, Critchley heat Williams, W. Rust heat Bradley, Eagle heat Waddington, Staines beat Chambers, Collett lost to Hooper, H. Rathbone lost to Hewitt, Woods lost- to Boys, and Wedde beat Henderson. At the conclusion of play Mr J. The wool-sorting class which has been carried on by Mr Louis Wood, of Napier, under the auspices of the Waipawa Technical Association, during the past few months, terminated its session yesterday. It is proposed, during the shearing season, to arrange with Mr Wood to give a practical demonstration at one of the local shearing sheds. A summary of the addresses which have accompanied the demonstrations at the class will appear in the “Mail” Supplement, commencing next week. A meeting of (he 1 committee of the Waipawa County Racing Club was held last evening for the purpose of dealing with various matters in connection with the annual race meeting to he held on the H.B. Jockey Club’s course at Hastings on Monday, October 22nd. The president, Mr W. J. Wood, was in the chair. It was decided to engage the services of the Waipawa Municipal Band for the day on terms to be stated. The matter of running a special train from Dannevirke was discussed, and the secretary was instructed to make representations to (lie authorities. Mr Collett subsequently saw Mr McNeil, travelling manager, and placed the full details before him. Authority was given for additional advertising with a view lo popularising the meeting.
