REFORM CANDIDATE.

FOR MID-CANTERBURY SEAT. (Per Press Association). WELLINGTON, This day. An announcement was made by the Prime Minister to-day in regard to the Reform candidate for the MidCanterbury seat at the general election. “I have received advice from the Hon. Mr Nosworthy,” said Mr Coates, “that he does not now intend to contest the seat, consequently the arrangement made previously between tlie Hon. Mr Nosworthy and Mr D. •Tones, M.P., will stand. The latter will, therefore, he the official Reform candidate. In view of the Hon. Mr N’osworthy’s long -period of service, both to the district and to the Dominion I feel sure that the intimation of his retirement from the active political arena will be received with ’’ojyret by his many friends. This regret, I need hardly say, is shared by myself and other colleagues in the Government. I may point out, however, that a very large portion of the Ellesmere electorate has been included in the new Mid-Canterbury district and that in.the present member (Vr Ellesmere the (‘lectors of MidCanterbury will have as a Government candidate a man who would bv his wide public experience worthily • present them in Parliament.”
